The registration window for the 2022 adapted soccer season is now open and we encourage all of our athletes to get registered as soon as possible! The links for the online registration process are at the bottom of this post. The 2022 adapted soccer schedule has been emailed to all returning athletes and will be posted to this webiste under the “Documents” tab shortly. Please note the new start times for practices and games, resulting from the change in school start/end times in Robbinsdale Area Schools.

The 2021-2022 adapted athletic seasons came to a close this weekend with the Robins taking home the third place trophy at the adapted softball state tournament. The Robins faced the eventual state champions, Dakota United, in the semifinals on Saturday morning. They managed to keep the game relatively close through the first few innings, despite not being able to muster much offense with their bats, trailiing just 3-1 when Dakota came to bat in the bottom of the third. The Hawks broke the game open with 5 runs and went on to defeat the Robins 12-2 in five innings.
In the third place game against Rochester, the Robins’ bats came back to life, generating enough offense to score at least one run in every inning. The Robins held a 6-5 lead heading into the fourth inning when the Raiders scored three times to take an 8-6 lead. The Robins scored one in the bottom of the fourth and one in the bottom of the fifth before they erupted for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 13-8 lead. The Raiders scored one in the top of the seventh, but the Robins solid fielding held off any further rally, taking home the third place trophy with a final score of 13-9. Marcus Brady, Nick Johnson, Lucas Harper, Jose Leon Estrada and Mark Cleveland all were a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate and combined to drive in 11 of the 13 runs. Jayda Johnson was incredible on the mound, striking out three batters and making many fantastic defensive plays. Jayda Johnson and Mark Cleveland were named to the All Tournament Team.

The Robins closed out the 2022 adapted softball regular season with a non-conference matchup against the Anoka-Hennepin Mustangs at Armstrong High School. The Robins were determined to prove they were better than the first two games against Anoka seemed to show, and for the most part, they accomplished that mission. The Robins nearly eliminated the fielding errors that hampered them previously, and actually were quite sharp in the field, turning three double plays. Anoka scored 3 runs in the first inning, but weren’t able to get a comfortable lead until much later. In fact, the Robins got within 4-3 after a two-run home run by Nick Johnson in the fourth inning, then got close again at 6-5 in the sixth inning when Darius Larson drove in two runs with a single to right field. Anoka found holes in the Robins defense in the seventh inning, and scored the 5 run maximum to put the game away, winning 11-5. Lucas Harper and Mark Cleveland both finished the game with 2 hits each. The Robins will now start preparing for the state tournament on June 3-4 at Chanhassen High School where they will be the #2 seed from the North Conference.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Robins were in Andover for a rematch with the Anoka-Hennepin Mustangs and were looking to bounce back from last week’s game that saw the Mustangs take advantage of numerous fielding errors by the Robins. For the first two and a half innings, it appeared that the Robins were up to the task, trailing just 4-2 and making solid plays in the field heading into the bottom of the third inning. Strong hitting by the Mustangs got the Robins rattled, and the fielding errors started showing up again. The Mustangs jumped on the errors and scored 5 runs in the third inning and 5 more in the fourth inning to hand the Robins a 14-3 loss. Jayda Johnson, Edgar Kinanga, Jose Leon Estrada and Darius Larson all finished the game with 2 hits each. The Robins close out the regular season next Monday at Armstrong in a non-conference game, once again against Anoka-Hennepin.

The Robins softball team suffered their first defeat of the season on Monday afternoon, losing to the Anoka-Hennepin Mustangs 21-4. Thirteen fielding errors by the Robins, combined with some unbelievable hitting by the Mustangs made for a long afternoon for the home team. Trailing 9-0 in the second inning, the Robins put up 5 hits and scored 2 runs and looked like they were going to bounce back from the slow start, however, 5 more runs by the Mustangs in the third inning all but sealed the loss for the Robins. Lucas Harper, Mark Cleveland and Jose Leon Estrada all had solid games, going 2 for 2 at the plate, with Harper scoring 2 runs. The Robins now have some time to work on a few areas as they are without a game until next Wednesday when they travel to the Andover Community Center for a rematch with Anoka-Hennepin.
