The Robins got back in the win column this afternoon with a solid, team oriented 12-2 victory over the Mounds View Rams. Consistent play from start to finish was key, as the Robins scored four goals in each period and played great defense for the entire 45 minutes. Every player saw quality minutes as the Robins were able to use several different combinations and line-ups to get everyone involved. In the end, Vincent Luu led the way with 3 goals and 3 assists. Sam Roles had 3 goals, Izear Joiner had 2 goals and 2 assists while Marcus Brady and Calvin Gerdt had 2 goals and 1 assist each. Hayley Engebretsen made 16 saves, and got some solid help from Ethan Sullivan (9 blocks) and Lydia Mazza (3 blocks). The Robins are at Anoka-Hennepin on Wednesday. Go Robins!

The Brainerd Warriors were in town today for a match-up with the Robins at Armstrong High School. This was a very tight game for the first period and a half, with the score tied at one mid-way through the second period. The Warriors then netted four goals in a four minute span to open the game up, and then pulled away with a 9-3 victory. The Robins looked really good during the opening stretch, playing solid defense and putting a ton of pressure on the high-powered Warriors, but they just couldn’t keep up. The Robins got goals from Calvin Gerdt, Sam Roles and Izear Joiner, with Brendan Bosker-Elliott getting credit for an assist. Hayley Engebretsen made 33 saves, while Edgar Kinanga led the defense with 14 blocked shots.

The Robins kicked off the 2017-2018 adapted floor hockey regular season against the long-time rival Anoka-Hennepin Mustangs. The Robins got their offense going early with Calvin Gerdt scoring the first goal less than 90 seconds into the game, and things kept building from there. Good puck movement and aggressive play led to seven more goals from the Robins, and they finished the day with an 8-2 victory. Goalkeeper Hayley Engebretsen made 23 saves, and received solid help from defenders Edgar Kinanga (11 blocks), Ethan Sullivan (7 blocks) and Lydia Mazza (4 blocks). Calvin Gerdt finished the game with 3 goals and 1 assist. Vincent Luu had 2 goals and 2 assists, Izear Joiner had 2 goals and Marcus Brady had 1 goal. The Robins are off until next Wednesday when the face the Brainerd Warriors at 4:15 PM at Armstrong High School.

The auxiliary gym at Armstrong High School was a busy place this afternoon. 13 players from the Armstrong / Cooper Wings youth hockey program joined the Robins for practice, comraderie and a fun, 20 minute scrimmage. These 4th and 5th grade boys and girls were awesome guests, and all of our players are exited to have them come back a little later in the season. Thank you to Coach Murray Ginther and all of his players for joining us today!

11/17: In the opening round of the state tournament, the Robins used a balanced scoring attack to advance past the South Suburban Flyers 15-1. The Robins looked good in the opening 10 minutes before slowing down a bit , leading at half by a score of 6-0. The second half saw the Robins’ offense really come to life, with multiple players netting goals. Calvin Gerdt led the way with 4 goals and 2 assists. Maddie Ausk, Marcus Brady, Izear Joiner, Sam Roles and Kajon Terrell all scored twice, with Hayley Engebretsen adding a goal of her own. Goalkeeper VIncent Luu made 18 saves. The Robins will face the #2 seed from the South Conference, the St. Paul Humboldt Hawks at 10:30 on Saturday morning in the semifinals at Stillwater H.S.

11/18: The Robins looked like a true powerhouse in the semifinals, dominating the quick and determined St. Paul Huboldt Hawks, 7-1. The Robins were carried throughout this game by two stong performances., one from goalkeeper Vincent Luu (37 saves) and the other by Marcus Brady (3 goals, 1 assist). Sam Roles had 2 goals and 1 assist while Izear Joiner and Calvin Gerdt both had 1 goal. Hayley Engebretsen and Vincent Luu were credited with assists.

The state championship game saw the Robins get off to a good start, controlling the pace of the game while limiting the Dakota Hawks scoring opportunities. Marcus Brady scored the first goal of the game with 9:30 left in the first half, and the Robins looked like they were on their way. A defensive error with 27 seconds left before halftime led to a goal by the Hawks, leading to a 1-1 tie with 20 minutes to play. The Robins came out of the halftime break looking confused and out of sync. Another defensive mistake 4 minutes into the second half led to what turned out to be the game winning goal. The Robins managed a flurry of scoring chances in the final 4 minutes but just couldn’t connect before time ran out. Despite ending differently than everyone would have liked, it was a GREAT season for the Robins, and we all should be very proud of a second place finish! Calvin Gerdt, Vincent Luu and Izear Joiner were named to the All-Tournament team.
