The Robins had a great weekend at the 2018 Adapted Softball State Tournament, coming away with another State Championship. They got things going with a solid 15-5 win over Burnsville / Farmington / Lakeville on Friday night, then followed it up with an impressive 10-1 win over the Dakota United Hawks in the seminfinals on Saturday Morning. In the championship game, the Robins took the field against the Anoka-Hennepin Mustangs for the fourth time this season, and it turned out to be the tightest game of the season. The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and completely held the Robins offense in check until the bottom of the third. A huge rally with two outs saw the Robins knock out 5 consecutive hits, scoring 4 times to take a 4-1 lead. With the Robins defense as dialed in as it was, those 4 runs turned out to be all they needed. Awesome pitching by Sam Roles ( just 3 runs allowed in 18+ innings pitched), solid fielding by Brendan Bosker-Elliott and Calvin Gerdt combined with flat-out unbelievable work at shortstop by Vincent Luu tamed the Mustangs for the final three innings. Luu turned an awesome double play in the top of the seventh inning to secure the championship for the Robins and finished the tournament with a handful of amazing plays in the field to go with 7 hits and 5 RBI. Izear Joiner also knocked out 7 hits to go with 4 RBI. Bosker-Elliott quitely had the biggest tournament for the Robins, collecting 9 hits in 10 trips to the plate, 2 doubles and a home run to go with a team-leading 7 RBI. Luu, Gerdt and Hayley Engebretsen were named to the Wells Fargo All-Tournament Team. Way to go Robins….it was an amazing season!!!!

The Robins finished off another highly successful adapted floor hockey regular season tonight with a 10-4 win over the Anoka-Hennepin Mustangs. It took the Robins a while to shake off a slow start, as the Mustangs kept the game close, trailing just 4-2 heading in to the final period. Six goals by the Robins offense and just six shots on goal allowed by the Robins defense was what it took to finally put the game away. Vincent Luu led the way with 5 goals and 1 assist. Sam Roles and Calvin Gerdt each had 2 goals and 1 assist. Maddie Ausk scored 1 goal while Izear Joiner and Marcus Brady each had 1 assist. Hayley Engebretsen made 31 saves. Ethan Sullivan and Lydia Mazza each blocked 3 shots, while Darius Larson blocked 4 and Edgar Kinanga blocked 8. The Robins now have two weeks to prepare for the state tournament in which they will be the #2 North seed, facing #3 South seed St. Paul Humboldt in the opening round on March 16.

The Robins got themselves back on track this afternoon with a very nicely played 13-3 win over the Mounds View Rams. Hat-tricks were recorded by Sam Roles, Izear Joiner and Calvin Gerdt, with Gerdt and Roles also collecting 2 assists each.
