11/17: In the opening round of the state tournament, the Robins used a balanced scoring attack to advance past the South Suburban Flyers 15-1. The Robins looked good in the opening 10 minutes before slowing down a bit , leading at half by a score of 6-0. The second half saw the Robins’ offense really come to life, with multiple players netting goals. Calvin Gerdt led the way with 4 goals and 2 assists. Maddie Ausk, Marcus Brady, Izear Joiner, Sam Roles and Kajon Terrell all scored twice, with Hayley Engebretsen adding a goal of her own. Goalkeeper VIncent Luu made 18 saves. The Robins will face the #2 seed from the South Conference, the St. Paul Humboldt Hawks at 10:30 on Saturday morning in the semifinals at Stillwater H.S.

11/18: The Robins looked like a true powerhouse in the semifinals, dominating the quick and determined St. Paul Huboldt Hawks, 7-1. The Robins were carried throughout this game by two stong performances., one from goalkeeper Vincent Luu (37 saves) and the other by Marcus Brady (3 goals, 1 assist). Sam Roles had 2 goals and 1 assist while Izear Joiner and Calvin Gerdt both had 1 goal. Hayley Engebretsen and Vincent Luu were credited with assists.

The state championship game saw the Robins get off to a good start, controlling the pace of the game while limiting the Dakota Hawks scoring opportunities. Marcus Brady scored the first goal of the game with 9:30 left in the first half, and the Robins looked like they were on their way. A defensive error with 27 seconds left before halftime led to a goal by the Hawks, leading to a 1-1 tie with 20 minutes to play. The Robins came out of the halftime break looking confused and out of sync. Another defensive mistake 4 minutes into the second half led to what turned out to be the game winning goal. The Robins managed a flurry of scoring chances in the final 4 minutes but just couldn’t connect before time ran out. Despite ending differently than everyone would have liked, it was a GREAT season for the Robins, and we all should be very proud of a second place finish! Calvin Gerdt, Vincent Luu and Izear Joiner were named to the All-Tournament team.

The MSHSL adapted soccer state tournament will be held on November 17 & 18 at Stillwater High School. By virtue of being the MAAA PI Soccer North Conference Champions, the Robins will be the #1 North seed in the state tournament bracket and will face the #4 South seed, South Suburban at 5:00 PM on Friday, November 17. The Robins’ team bus will depart Armstrong High School at 3:10 on Friday, November 17 and will return to Armstrong at approximately 7:00 PM for those that need a ride back to Armstrong after the game. The game times and opponents for Saturday’s game will be determined by the outcomes of the Friday games. Parents will be responsible for transportation all day on Saturday. Please contact a teammate ASAP if you may need to arrange a carpool.

10/30: In the regular season finale, the Robins put together their most complete effort of the season, thoroughly dominating the Anoka-Hennepin Mustangs, 13-1. This game saw the Robins truly play up to their full potential on both ends of the floor. They were constantly attacking the Mustangs defense with a quick, aggressive offensive attack, and limiting the Mustang’s scoring opportunities with a swarming defense. Calvin Gerdt led the Robins with 5 goals and 1 assist tonight. Marcus Brady had an outstanding game, scoring 3 goals. Sam Roles made very solid effort as well, finishing with 2 goals. Also scoring for the Robins were Izear Joiner, Maddie Ausk and Hayley Engebretsen with 1 goal each. Brendan Bosker-Elliott had 2 assists, and Kajon Terrell, Vincent Luu and Elizabeth Neuville all had 1 assist. Ethan Sullivan anchored the defense for the Robins, blocking 4 shots, while Jordan O’Donnell, Lydia Mazza and Darius Larson all blocked 2 shots each.

The win completes a perfect regular season for the Robins, who will be the #1 seed from the North Conference at the Adapted Soccer State Tournament at Stillwater High School on November 17 & 18.

10/25: In the final road game of the season, the Robins jumped out to an early 4-0 lead against the Park Center Pirates, then scrambled to hang on for a nail-biting 6-5 victory. At halftime, the Robins definitely appeared to be in full control of this game, however the Pirates speedy, high powered attack came to life and chipped away at the Robins’ lead. Ultimately, an Izear Joiner goal with 3:52 to play turned out to be the difference maker for the Robins. Joiner led the charge, tallying 3 goals and 1 assist. Sam Roles, Calvin Gerdt and Brendan Bosker-Elliott each finished the game with 1 goal and 1 assist. Goalkeeper Vincent Luu was also credited with an assist to go along with his 32 saves.

10/16/2017: The Robins traveled to Mounds View today, and came home with a 6-4 win and the North Conference Championship. Even though there are two games left to play, the Robins locked things up early, considering they won the season series and hold the tie breaker against the second place Park Center Pirates. Today’s game started quickly with Izear Joiner netting the first goal just 19 seconds into the game. Hayley Engebretsen followed with a goal at the mid-point of the first half, then Calvin Gerdt took over from there. Gerdt scored the next 4 goals for the Robins to help secure the win. Maddie Ausk finished with 2 assists. Goalkeeper Vincent Luu stopped 23 shots fired his way by the Rams’ offense. The Robins are now off until next Wednesday when the travel to the Park Center Pirates.
