The Robins faced the Anoka-Hennepin Mustangs in their home opener this evening in a rescheduled event that was originally slated for January 29. The Mustangs opened the scoring less than 2 minutes into the game and seemed determined to mount a reasonable offensive threat. The Robins fought back with an impressive offensive attack of their own, taking a 7-2 lead before the opening period ended. The second period was back and forth with both teams finding the net several times and had the Mustangs get as close as 8-5 before the Robins opened up an 11-5 lead as the second period closed. Six more Robins goals found the net in the third period as they pulled away for a nice 17-6 win. Vincent Luu and Izear Joiner finished the game with 6 goals and 2 assists each. Sam Roles had 3 goals and 4 assists while Maddie Ausk had 2 goals and 4 assists. Lucas Harper had 2 assists and Calvin Bauman had 1 assist. Defenseman Darius Larson had a solid game, blocking 7 shots, while goalie Marcus Brady stopped 18 shots. The Robins will be facing the Mustangs again tomorrow, this time at the Andover YMCA.
After four consecutive weather related cancellations to start the adapted floor hockey regular season and a real threat for a fifth missed game, the Robins and Crimson managed to get their seasons going at Maple Grove Middle School. The Robins opened the game with three first period goals and maintained an impressive defensive presence and complete control of the puck from start to finish, ultimately defeating the Crimson 10-0. The defense was so solid, the Crimson managed just 3 shots on the Robins goal, while defenders Darius Larson and Edgar Kinanga blocked a total of 11 Crimson shots. Vincent Luu led the offensive charge with 4 goals and 2 assists. Sam Roles scored 3 goals of his own while Maddie Ausk scored 1 goal and recorded 3 assists. Also scoring for the Robins were Izear Joiner and Calvin Bauman with 1 goal each and Owen Karjala and Ava Hetteen with 1 assist each.
