The regular adapted soccer season for 202 has been replaced with an 8 session training season, approved by the MSHSL. These training sessions will provide our athletes an opportunity to practice their soccer skills and maintain social involvement with their teammates in an environment that is as safe and socially distant as possible. Outdoor training sessions will be utilized as much as possible to limit the possible spread of COVID-19, with indoor sessions used only when the weather is not appropriate for the team to work outside. These training sessions are voluntary, and opting out of these sessions will not have an impact on an athlete’s standing with the team. The coaching staff has scheduled training sessions on the following dates and will send information on the training sites at the beginning of each week. All sessions will run from 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM.

While we didn’t get a chance to give our floor hockey season the ending it deserved with a trip to the state tournament, our kids still got a little bit of recognition for the work they put in all season long. The Robins wrapped up the 2020 regular season with a well-played 7-0 win over the Mounds View Rams. The win gave the Robins a 4 game winning streak heading into the state tournament. The entire team improved in all aspects over the course of this winning streak and gained a ton of confidence in their abilities. Sam Roles led the way with 3 goals tonight, Marcus Strong was right behind him with 2 goals. Mark Cleveland and Jose Leon Estrada scored one goal each. Santana Washington was the leader in the assist department, finishing the game with 2. Ava Hetteen, Jayda Johnson, Micah Bomgardner, Mark Cleveland, Edgard Jayee and Lucas Harper all were credited with one assist each. Darius Larson and Edgar Kinanga split the goalkeeping duties, combining for 1 save . Kinanga was credited with one blocked shot on defense. The Robins now await their seed and opponent for the state tournament on March 13 & 14 and have two weeks to keep improving their game.

For the second game in a row, the Robins came up with a remarkable third period effort to pull off a come from behind victory, this time defeating Anoka-Hennepin 8-7. A competitive first period ended in a 2-2 tie, but the Mustangs came out hot in the second period scoring the first four goals and running out to a 6-2 lead. The Robins answered with two of their own, but Anoka pushed the lead to 7-4 as the second period came to an end. The third period was all about the Robins’ offensive effort, as they put continuous pressure on the Mustangs’ defense. Marcus Strong started the third period scoring with a goal at the 9:32 mark, then assisted on a Sam Roles goal just 13 seconds later. Roles added another goal just over one minute later to tie the game 7-7 with 7:10 remaining. Ava Hetteen netted the game-winner on a pass from Roles at the 6:48 mark, and the Robins’ defense held strong from there. Roles finished with 4 goals and 3 assists, while Marcus Brady and Nick Johnson scored goals to go with those from Hetteen and Strong. Brady had 3 assists, Jayda Johnson had 2 assists while Strong and Hetteen also were credited with 1 assist each. Edgar Kinanga made 11 saves and Darius Larson blocked 9 shots. The Robins close out the regular season on the road with a game at Mounds View on Thursday.

The Robins avenged an early season loss today with a HUGE, hard-fought, come from behind 8-5 victory over the Maple Grove Crimson. The Robins dealt with a slow start as the Crimson ran out to an early 3-1, first period lead. The Robins then started to settle in a bit, play better defense and woke up their offense in the second period. After trailing 5-3, Sam Roles scored to make it 5-4 early in the third, then the Robins role players started to take over. Solid shifts from Nick Johnson, Jose Leon Estrada, Owen Karjala, Santana Washington, Lucas Harper and Micah Bomgardner in the third period brought the Robins offense to life, with Harper scoring the game-tying goal and Bomgardner scoring what turned out to be the game-winner! Roles and Marcus Brady added two more goals in the final 4 minutes to secure the win. Brady finished with a game-high 4 goals, Roles had 2 goals and 2 assists. Ava Hetteen had a great game, finishing with 3 assists and Santana Washington had 2 assists while Jayda Johnson, Calvin Bauman, Nick Johnson and Bomgardner all were credited with 1 assist each. Goalkeeper Edgar Kinanga played well, making 11 saves. Darius Larson had one of his best games of the year, blocking 20 shots. The Robins look to keep the hot streak going next week with games at Anoka and at Mounds View.
