The Robins engaged in an epic battle with the Park Center Pirates in their first home game of the season this afternoon, and emerged with a thrilling, last-second 6-5 victory. Both teams traded goals throughout the first half, with the Pirates taking a 3-2 lead into halftime. The Pirates opened the second half with a goal just 48 seconds in to open a 4-2 lead on the Robins. Junior Sam Roles picked up a loose ball on the ensuing kickoff and took it all the way to the net himself, scoring just 12 seconds later to bring the Robins back within 1 goal. Freshman Calvin Bauman tied the game at the 12:53 mark, and Roles added another score 30 seconds later to put the Robins out front. Park Center tied the game at 5 with 5:04 left to play before both teams locked down on defense. With 33 seconds remaining, eighth grader Jayda Johnson attacked a loose ball in front of the Pirates net and buried it for what turned out to be the game-winning goal. Roles finished the game with 4 scores and Marcus Brady and Ava Hetteen were credited with assists. Lucas Harper was challenged in the net from start to finish, but held his ground admirably, making 19 saves for the Robins. Darius Larson blocked 6 shots, Nikki Dougan and Josh Reis also chipped in on defense, blocking 2 shots each. The Robins will face Anoka-Hennepin at home next Thursday at 4:15.
