11/18: The Robins looked like a true powerhouse in the semifinals, dominating the quick and determined St. Paul Huboldt Hawks, 7-1. The Robins were carried throughout this game by two stong performances., one from goalkeeper Vincent Luu (37 saves) and the other by Marcus Brady (3 goals, 1 assist). The state championship game saw the Robins get off to a good start, controlling the pace of the game while limiting the Dakota Hawks scoring opportunities. Marcus Brady scored the first goal of the game with 9:30 left in the first half, and the Robins looked like they were on their way. A defensive error with 27 seconds left before halftime led to a goal by the Hawks, leading to a 1-1 tie with 20 minutes to play. The Robins came out of the halftime break looking confused and out of sync. Another defensive mistake 4 minutes into the second half led to what turned out to be the game winning goal. The Robins managed a flurry of scoring chances in the final 4 minutes but just couldn’t connect before time ran out. Despite ending differently than everyone would have liked, it was a GREAT season for the Robins, and we all should be very proud of a second place finish! Calvin Gerdt, Vincent Luu and Izear Joiner were named to the All-Tournament team.
