Pre-Season Notes From The Coach
With the Robins on the verge of starting the 2005 Adapted Floor Hockey season, I felt it would be appropriate to share some thoughts about the weeks to come.
This years' version of the Robins floor hockey team will be one with a lot to prove. Missing the State Tournament for only the second time in team history last year left a lot of players feeling disappointed, yet determined to turn things around this year. With the abundant young talent on this years squad, making a statement, and improving vastly on last years' finish should not be a problem. With the return of virtually every player from last year, and the addition of nine players this year, the Robins carry as big of a roster as they have in almost ten years.
I do not necessarily expect this team to come out in dominant fashion...rather, I expect this team to have a fair-to-good start (we have a tough schedule early on), then continually get stronger as the season progresses. In my opinion, when March rolls around, the sky will be the limit for this group of players.
The first few practices have been fun to coach, yet there still is some hard work to be done. My advice to the entire team will be this: continue to work hard every day, keep your head up when times get tough, and have as much fun as you possibly can, win or lose.
Good Luck Robins!

In the Robins first ever Junior Varsity game, the Robins played well, and kept things close, losing by a score of 3-0. Eighth graders Lance Colquitt, James Sneltjes, Alex Stoiaken, Brian Kraske and Kyri Simon all had their first Floor Hockey experience with the Robins, and did a really great job. |

Sophomore Josh Klein led the way for the Robins, scorinf 3 goals and 2 assists. Juniors Chris Schumacher and Joey Mullen also added to the Robins effort by scoring 1 goal and 1 assist each. STATE TOURNAMENT: Robins 4 Rochester 5
In Saturday's Consolation Semi-Finals the Robins were matched up with the Rochester Raiders. In the second to last game of the regular season, the Robins defeated the Raiders 4-3 in a hard fought, defense oriented effort, and this time around really wasn't all that different. The Robins came out on fire, led by Tim Kraske's first period hat-trick and a goal by Josh Klein, and led 4-0 after one period. The Raiders then really turned up their defensive effort and put the pressure on the Robins with their fast paced offense. Through the last two periods, the Raiders outscored the Robins 5-0. The Robins had several chances to tie the game up late in the game, but just couldn't seem to connect on their opportunities. The loss ended the Robins season, and Rochester went on to win the Consolation Championship. |

End of the Season Notes From the Coach
Well Robins fans, the 2005 State Tournament turned out to be a little bit disappointing for this year's team, but all in all, it truly was a great season. We had high hopes of at least making it to a Semi-Final rematch with the eventual State Champion Dakota United Hawks, just to see how we match up with them since we faced them in the first game of the season, but Minneapolis South proved to be just a bit too rough and pnysical for our style of play.
I also think that our relatively young and somewhat inexperienced team was caught a bit off-guard by the intensity that the State Tournament brings. Yes, we have players that have been to the State Championship game before, but our large group of 8th and 9th graders just weren't quite ready yet. Next season, this group is really going to have something to prove...I absolutely can't wait, because it is going to be REALLY exciting! I also want to congratulate Seniors Amy Gardner and Eddie Nelson on their great floor hockey careers...it may come as little consolation at this point in time, but these two players have had the opportunity to experience success that few other Adapted Athletes ever do in winning two Adapted Floor Hockey State Championships. Their heart, work-ethic and leadership will be greatly missed by next years' hockey team. I also want everyone to know how much fun the entire coaching staff had this year. It is always fun to watch the kids grow together and really become a team as the season progresses. Throw into the mix a bunch of new athletes with different attitudes, abilities and personalities and it really makes for a great learning experience for everyone. Finally, I want to say "THANK YOU!!!" to all the parents for their patience and support throughout the season...we wouldn't be able to do what we do without you! It is now time to change gears and start thinking about softball...I hope eveyone is ready for the first practice on March 31. Congratulations on a GREAT floor hockey season, Robins!!!
