ROBINS 8 WHITE BEAR 6
May 6, 2004
Tonight the Robins faced the Bears of White Bear Lake. The Bears entered the game with a 5-0 record, but the Robins did not let this impressive record keep them from playing their best game of the season. As has become the case, the Robins bats were on fire early, scoring four times in the first inning. The score was 5-0 in favor of the Robins before White Bear put three runs on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Solid fielding, and smart all around play by the Robins kept the Bears from ever taking the lead in this one, although they were able to tie the game at 6 in the top half of the sixth inning. The bottom half of the Robins batting order came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth, and certainly seemed to have something to prove, scoring what would be the game winning runs on RBI singles by Amy Gardner and Tim Kraske. Ashley Bailey and Kati Fobes each made outstanding plays in the outfield to record the first two outs in the seventh and helped the Robins secure the win.

ROBINS 10 DAKOTA 8
May 4, 2004
The Hawks of Dakota United came to Hosterman Middle School tonight, and gave the Robins everything they had, before finally falling to the two-time defending State Champions by a score of 10-8. The Robins went through the entire batting order in the first inning, getting out only twice, and scoring 5 times en route to an early 5-2 lead. The Robins scored two runs in the bottom half of the fifth on RBI singles by Amy Gardner and Tim Kraske to make it 10-6. Dakota would counter with two runs in the top half of the sixth to make it 10-8, but the tough defense of the Robins would hold the Hawks scoreless in the seventh. Ashley Bailey led the way for the Robins, going 2-3 and batting in 4 runs. Sam Spolar pitched seven solid innings for the Robins, giving up just four earned runs and recording two strikeouts.

ROBINS 7 OSSEO 11
April 28, 2004
Today the Robins squared off with the rival Osseo Orioles, and came out on the short end of a hard fought 11-7 game. The game was tied at three after two innings, but Osseo used two consecutive three run innings in the third and fourth to take the lead for good. Tim Kraske went 3-4, with one RBI and one run scored, while Becky Vahakangas went 2-3 with 2 RBI and one run scored. Brian Kraske, Jessica Tounsley, Ashley Bailey and Chris Schumacher all recorded two hits each for the Robins.

ROBINS 14 WAYZATA 4
April 22, 2004
Tonight the Robins got back on the winning track, with a 14-4, six-inning victory over the Wayzata-Minnetonka Lakers. The Robins used a four-run first inning, and a five-run fifth inning, en route to their highest scoring game of the young season. Sam Spolar went 4-4, scored four times and batted in 2 runs. Chris Schumacher also went 4-4, with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Kati Fobes led the team with four RBI. Spolar pitched all six innings, and gave up just one earned run while striking out three batters.

ROBINS 5 HUMBOLDT 13
The second game of the season was a bit tougher for the Robins, as they lost to a solid squad from St. Paul Humboldt, 13-5. Things were great once again in the first inning for the Robins, scoring 4 times, but they were not able to mount much of an offensive threat after that. The teams' only other run was scored by Chris Schumacher in the 5th inning. Humboldt was able to take advantage of some fielding mistakes by the Robins in the 4th and 6th innings, scoring 9 runs in those innings, and put the game out of reach. Tim Kraske went 3-4, with one run scored. Becky Vahakangas went 2-2 with 2 RBI, and Chris Schumacher went 2-4, with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.

ROBINS 10 SOUTH 4
The first softball game of the season was a good one for the Robins, as they took control of the game early and defeated the Tigers of Minneapolis South 10-4. South took a 2-0 before the Robins came up to bat for the first time, but the Robins used 6 first inning hits to score 4 runs to take the lead for good. The Tigers were unable to record a single out in the second inning, as the Robins drew 3 walks, and strung together 4 hits to implement the 5 run rule, leading 9-3 after 2 innings. Tim Kraske went 3-4 and scored 3 runs. Chris Schumacher went 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI, while Becky Vahakangas went 2-3 with 3 RBI. Eighth grader Sam Spolar did a great job pitching for the Robins, striking out two batters and allowing just 4 runs in 7 innings.
