STATE QUARTERFINALS: Robins 9 South Suburban 3
The Robins took a big step towards defending their state championship
by defeating the Flyers of South Suburban 9-3 at the Lindbergh
Center of Hopkins H.S. The Robins got off to a great start,
only allowing one hit by the Flyers in the top of the first,
the came up to bat and scored four times in the bottom half.
South Suburban made it interesting by coming out and putting
up three runs in the second, but then the Robins really tightened
things up. The Robins scored twice in the 4th, once in the
5th and then added two more in the 6th to put the game away.
Kevin Devine went 2-3 with 3 RBI, while Becky Vahakangas went
1-3 and added 2 RBI on a 4th inning double. Mike Boss went
3-3 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored, while pitching all 7 innings,
giving up 3 runs on 10 hits and struck out 2.
ROBINS 6 WHITE BEAR LAKE 2
This was a very exciting day for the Robins...they clinched
a share of the conference title for the first time since 1996
by defeating the White Bear Lake Bears 6-2. This final game
turned out to be a lot like the season opener, as the Robins
struggled at the plate for most of the game, but had one big
inning (4th) that propelled them to victory. Tim Kraske and
Mike Boss both were 4-4 in the game, but it was Nu Yang and
Dan Buddy that provided the offensive spark for the Robins
as they both delivered 2 RBI to help the winning effort. Boss
pitched all 7 innings, giving up just 2 earned runs and struck
out 4 White Bear batters.
ROBINS 6 SOUTH SUBURBAN 5
This game turned out to be a really great one, with both teams
putting out tremendous defensive efforts to keep the opponent
in check. Early on, it appeared as if the Robins would once
again cruise to an easy victory as they took a 5-0 lead after
the first inning. The South Suburban squad then was able to
really tighten things up, and hold the Robins scoreless until
the 7th inning. The Robins certainly had their chances during
the middle innings of this game, but just couldn't seem to
scratch out the extra hit or two needed to score some runs.
The Flyers scored their 5th run in the sixth inning to tie
it at five...then it was up to the Robins to see if they had
enough left to win it. Tim Kraske led off the 7th with a single,
then moved all the way to third on a ground-out by Kati Fobes.
Then Mike Boss managed to work out a walk, seeing several
good pitches before being awarded the free base. Then, Kevin
Devine delivered the game winning run with a line drive single
into left field! GREAT GAME ROBINS!
ROBINS 10 MOUNDSVIEW 0
What a great night for the Robins!!! The evening started out
with a ceremony to honor former Head Coach and program founder
Lloyd Olson for his many wonderful years of service and his
desire to start Adapted Athletics in the Robbinsdale area.
Then the Robins took the field and beat the Rams 10-0, in
a game once again dominated by hot bats and good defense.
The third inning contimues to be magical for the Robins, as

took control of the game. The Robins were led by Nu Yang,
who went 2-2 with 3 runs scored, and Keith Abram who was 3-3
with 1 RBI and three runs scored. Mike Boss and Kevin Devine

ROBINS 12 OSSEO 2 (5 Inn.)
The Robins bats stayed hot again this game as they defeated
rival Osseo 12-2. Even though the team was hot at the plate
this game, they proved that they are capable of playing some
very tough defense, allowing only 2 runs on 7 hits. The Robins
scored once in the first, three times in the second and five
times in the third to take a 9-1 lead, and never looked back
from there. Mike Boss, Kevin Devine and Chris Schumacher were

2 runs scored and 3 RBI, Devine was 2-3 with 2 runs scored
and 3 RBI and Schumacher was 3-3 with 3 runs scored. Boss

For the second straight game, the Robins had to play extra
innings, but this time they came away with the win. Both teams
did very little scoring early on, with the Robins leading

explosion for both teams. Anoka scored 5 times in the 5th,
and the Robins scored 5 times in the 6th. In the 8th inning

ROBINS 9 DAKOTA 10 (8 Inn.)
This was the first time that the Robins had ever faced a Dakota
United softball team, and it turned out to be a very close
and exciting match-up. Mike Boss started the scoring for the
Robins with a 2 run HR in the first inning. The Robins scored
3 times in the second and twice in the third inning, trailing
8-7 after 3 innings. Both teams were quiet for a while after
that. Dakota had the lead at 9-7 in the top of the 7th, when
Chris Schumacher had an RBI triple, and Ashley Bailey had
an RBI ground-out to first to tie it at 9. The Robins had
the bases loaded with 2 outs in the top of the 8th, but could
not capitalize and Dakota went on to score the winning run
with 2 outs in the bottom of that very same inning. Tim Kraske
led the Robins offensively, going 5-5, with 2 doubles and
scoring 2 runs. Boss pitched 7 2/3 innings, giving up 6 earned
runs and 4 unearned runs while striking out 4 batters.
ROBINS 15 WAYZATA 0
The Robins came into this game 2-0, got a remarkable effort
from pitcher Mike Boss, and came out with a 15-0 win over
the Lakers of Wayzata-Minnetonka. Boss pitched a 1 hitter,
losing the no-hitter and perfect game on a double with 2 outs
in the 4th inning. He did not allow another Laker to reach
base for the remainder of the game. Some of the game notables
for the Robins include: Nu Yang 3-3, 2 RBI & 2 runs scored;

with hots bats and lots of scoring in a 10-0 win over the
Hawks of St. Paul Humboldt. Tim Kraske, Mike Boss and Kevin
Devine led the ways for the Robins, all going 3 for 3 in the
game. Boss had 2 HR's and 4 RBI; Kraske had 3 singles and
scored 3 runs and Devine had 3 singles, 2 runs scored and
1 RBI. The entire team hit the ball extremely well and played
good, solid defense. Boss pitched 5 innings, giving up zero
runs on 5 hits while stiking out 2.
ROBINS 6 MPLS. SOUTH 2
The Robins opened the season a little rusty, but came together
enough to beat Minneapolis South 6-2. The Tigers scored 2
runs in the 3rd inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The Robins'
bats were quiet until Kevin Devine hit a home run in the 4th
inning to open the scoring for the defending State Champs.
