ROBINS 3 MPLS. SOUTH 0
The Robins played hard and came up with another big win over the Tigers of Mpls. south, 3-0. This game looked like a World Cup style soccer game, with a relatively low number of shots on goal, and only 3 goals scored. Whatever the case, it was a great game. Tim Kraske started the scoring with a goal on a great pass from Chris Schumacher with 6 minutes left in the first half. Kevin Devine knocked in 2 quick goals to start the second half on passes from Kraske and Kati Fobes, then the defense took over. Becky Vahakangas played one of her best games as a goalie, smothering every shot that came her way posting 26 saves and her first shut-out of the season. GREAT JOB ROBINS!
ROBINS 8 PARK CENTER 2
Four in a row!!! The Robins kept up the great teamwork, passing and defense again this week, and rolled to their fourth consecutive victory with an 8-2 victory over the Pirates of Park Center. The Robins were in control of this game from the very beginning, with Tim Kraske's "hot" foot picking up where it left off in the Wayzata game. The Robins led 4-0 at halftime, thanks to Kraske's 3 first half goals; he went on to score another in the second half, finishing with 4 for the game. Chris Schumacher had 2 goals and 2 assists, while Kevin Devine scored 1 goal and Kati Fobes added 2 assists. Becky Vahakangas stopped 13 of the 15 shots she faced.
ROBINS 7 WAYZATA 3
The Robins continued their hot streak and won their third game in a row, defeating the Wayzata-Minnetonka Laker 7-3. Once again, passing and smart play were the leading factors in the victory, but this time one thing was different. In this game Chris Schumacher took a back seat to Tim Kraske and his "hot" foot. Tim was unstoppable, scoring 5 goals. Kati Fobes had 2 goals and 2 assists, while Schumacher had 1 assist. Senior Jessica Tounsley scored the first point of her adapted soccer career with 2 assists. Again, Becky Vahakangas was outstanding, making 24 saves for the Robins.
ROBINS 4 ANOKA 1
The Anoka-Hennepin Mustang proved to be a viable opponent for the Robins in this game, but fortunately the Robins were able to win their second game in a row with a score of 4-1. The Robins led 1-0 at halftime, and 3-0 before there was 3 minutes gone in the second half. This time, the Robins had a very balanced offensive attack with both Chris Schumacher and Kati Fobes scoring 2 goals and 2 assists. Tim Kraske also had an assist for the Robins. Becky Vahakanagas had 35 saves and played an outstanding game.
ROBINS 9 ST. PAUL HIGHLAND 3
The Robins finally got on track this week with a 9-3 win at Highland. A great, team oriented game seemed to be the ticket as the Robins used some outstanding passing and defense to put this one away early, leading 7-1 at halftime. For the third straight game, Chris Schumacher was the leading scorer, putting in 5 goals and 2 assists. Tim Kraske had 3 goals and 1 assist; Kati Fobes had 1 goal and 2 assists and Josh Buell also had 2 assists. Becky Vahakangas had 16 saves for the Robins, who are now 1-2 on the season.
P.S. Kati Fobes was asked if she was willing to sing the national anthem before the game, as Highlands' singer was ill. She stepped up to the microphone and did a remarkable job, impressing everyone in the gym. Great job Kati!!!
ROBINS 3 St. PAUL HUMBOLDT 5
The Robins locked up in another tough battle in game two of the season, but still couldn't come up victorious, falling to the St. Paul Humboldt Hawks 5-3. Early on, this was another close one...the score was tied at 1 at the half. It was during the second half that the Hawks got hot, scoring 4 goals while the Robins were able to add just 2. Chris Schumacher led the way once again with 2 goals. Freshman Kevin Devine added the Robins only other goal. Becky Vahakangas made 54 saves in the net for the Robins.
ROBINS 4 DAKOTA UNITED 6
The Robins faced a tough draw for the season opener this year playing at perennial powerhouse Dakota United. The Robins and Hawks kept this one close throughout the game before the Hawks finally prevailed 6-4. The Robins led 2-0 early on before Dakota rallied for two goals of their own in the middle of the first half, but the Robins still led 3-2 at halftime. After that, the Robins just started to run out of gas, and didn't score their next goal until there was just 5 seconds remaining in the game. Sophomore Chris Schumacher led the way with 3 goals. Tim Kraske added 2 assists, and goaltender Becky Vahakangas stopped 20 of the 26 shots she faced.
