10/25/2001: Robbinsdale - 10 vs. White Bear
Lake - 3
Robins Finish Season Unbeaten!
The White Bear Lake Bears (6-4-0) came to Hosterman Middle
School as the only team standing between the Robins and a
nearly perfect season. The Bears were a very quick and talented
team, but still were no match for the Robins, as they played
their most complete game of the season, and finished the regular
season with a 9-0-1 record after beating White Bear 10-3.
The Robins were great in every aspect of the game, and dominated
from the first kick-off. An excellent passing game, a rock
solid defense combined with outstanding goalkeeping helped
the Robins complete one of their most successful regular seasons
ever! Mike Boss scored five times, and finished the regular
season with a team high 28 goals. Adam Moles, Rachel Dockter
and Keith Abram all added two assists each. Goalie Becky Vahakangas
was everywhere, sliding, diving and falling all over nearly
every WBL shot, and finished the game with a season high 29
saves. Congratulations Robins!!!! Good Luck at the State
Tournament!!!
10/23/2001: Robbinsdale - 9 vs. South Suburban
- 2
Robins Still Unbeaten!
The Robins made their last road game of the season a good
one, with a solid effort, and a 9-2 victory against a much
improved South Suburban Flyers team. Adam Moles' passing seemed
to be the biggest catalyst for the Robins' offense as he contributed
four assists in the game. Mike Boss continued to lead the
Robins by scoring four goals, and Rachel Dockter scored two
times to push her season total to nine. Becky Vahahkangas
was great again in the net for the Robins, making 15 saves
and allowing only two goals, with one coming on a penalty
shot. The Robins will wrap up the regular season on 10/25/2001
at home versus White Bear Lake.
10/17/2001: Robbinsdale - 10 vs. Minneapolis
South - 2
This game was originally scheduled for September 11, 2001,
but was rescheduled due to the terroristic attacks against
America. The Robins continued their season long pattern of
getting out to a good lead by halftime, and cruising to a
comfortable victory as they crushed South Minneapolis 10-2.
Mike Boss led they way again for the Robins, scoring five
goals in the win. Freshman Adam Moles added two goals and
one assist, and sophomore Becky Vahakangas made 18 saves to
hold off the South Tigers attack.
10/16/2001: Robbinsdale - 10 vs. Moundsview
- 2
The Robins won big again against a young and inexperienced
Moundsview team. Consistent play and good teamwork were key
again, as every team member made a contribution to the victory.
Junior captain Mike Boss led the way for the Robins' with
six goals. Adam Moles, Kevin Devine, Michelle Boss and Nu
Yang all scored one goal apiece, and eighth grader Rachel
Dockter added four assists and now leads the team with 11
assists on the season. The Robins' are now 6-0-1, and tied
for first place.
10/11/2001: Robbinsdale - 4 vs. Dakota -
2
Another Close One
The Robins put up another good fight, and this time they
posted the win, with a 4 - 2 victory against previously
undefeated Dakota United. The Robins picked up where they
left off from the Park Center game, with great defense and
smart play. Sophomore Becky Vahakangas put on a great passing
display by setting up Freshman Adam Moles perfectly for two
great goals. Rachel Dockter finished with one goal and one
assist, and Kevine Devine scored the fourth and decisive goal
of the game for the Robins. Freshman goalie Keith Abram had
ten saves to help the Robins hold off a tough Dakota offensive
attack. The Robins are now two points out of first place in
the standings, and own a 5 - 0 - 1 record.
10/9/2001: Robbinsdale - 3 vs. Park Center
- 3 *tie game
A Tight Battle
The Robins stayed unbeaten, but couldn't quite pull out the
win in a hard fought battle with arch rival, Park Center,
and played to a 3 -3 tie. This was a matchup between two undefeated
teams, and was very even from the opening kick off. The Robins
got out to a quick 1-0 lead on their home court with a goal
from Sophomore Becky Vahakangas, but Park Center was quick
to respond. Park Center took a 3 - 2 lead midway through the
second half, but Junior Mike Boss pulled the Robins even with
a great goal off of a direct kick in front of the Pirates'
net. Freshman Keith Abram did a great job in the net, making
19 saves for the Robins, to help keep the game tight. Look
for these two teams to clash one more time this season, most
likely in the State Tournament, on November 9th and 10th.
9/27/2001: Robbinsdale - 15 vs. Wayzata-Minnetonka
- 1
Robins win big again!
The Robins posted their fourth consecutive victory, with a
big win against Wayzata/Minnetonka. Another great team effort
was the story of the night as the Robins beat Wayzata 15 -
1. With our starters seeing limited playing time, our younger
players got the opportunity to put in big minutes and continued
to develop their skills. Eighth grader Rachel Dockter led
the Robins with five goals and one assist. Junior Michelle
Boss added three goals and two assists, while Freshman Eddie
Nelson, playing in his first game of the season, scored his
first soccer goal ever!
9/25/2001: Robbinsdale - 22 vs. Anoka - 1
Big Win at Home!
The Robbinsdale Robins defeated Anoka 22 to 1 at home
in a great team effort. Our younger players and new players
saw lots of minutes and played extremely well. Eigth grader
Ashley Bailey scored her first goal in soccer, Seventh grader
Josh Buell scored his first goal also and finished the game
with 4 goals. Sophomore Nu Yang saw minutes at forward and
scored 4 goals in the victory. All all but one of our forwards
scored a goal. An all around great offensive effort with lots
of passing and smart movement on the floor and a solid defensive
game. The Robins set a team record for goals in a game in
soccer with 22 goals. The Robins are now 3-0!
9/19/2001: Robbinsdale - 9 vs. St. Paul Highland
- 1
Team effort puts Robins past Highland
The Robins won their second straight game, with a complete
team effort against Highland Park of St.Paul. Teamwork, solid
defense and smart play were the keys as six players scored
goals in a 9-1 victory. Mike Boss, Adam Moles and Becky Vahakangas
each scored twice, while Kevin DeVine, Tasha Kositzke and
Nu Yang each added one goal. Rachel Dockter also had three
assists in the balanced offensive effort. Michelle Boss continued
her solid play at goalie, and eighth grader Josh Buell did
not allow a goal in relief duty during the second half of
the game. The Robins are now 2 - 0, and are off to a great
start!
9/18/2001: Robbinsdale - 9 vs. St. Paul Humboldt
- 5
Robins come up big in home opener!
The Robins struck early and often against the defending state
champions from St. Paul Humboldt, with junior Mike Boss, and
freshman Adam Moles leading the way. It was the Robins' first
game of the year after having their game against South Minneapolis
postponed due to the events in New York and Washington D.C..
Boss scored the game's first goal only seven seconds into
the first half, and the Robins never looked back from there
in a 9-5 victory. Boss and Moles scored three goals apiece,
while freshman Keith Abram scored two assists. Michelle Boss
recorded 17 saves in her debut at goalie.
