5/23/2002: Robbinsdale 14 vs. North Suburban 2
The Robbinsdale Robins defeated North Suburban with
a score of 14-2 in a ten run rule game to advance the Robins
to State. The Robins had lost
their pitcher for the evening and Ryan McGee came in from second
base to
pitch a terrific game for the Robins. North Suburban started
off with a home run. Jessica Vaughn, one of the Senior Captains
started the Robins off with a triple. Ryan McGee with a home
run and the Robins were ahead 2 in the bottom of the 1st. With
another 1-2-3 outs by the Robins, sticky fingers of first base
person Mary Devine brought the Robins up again. Jacob Yurik
with back to back great hits this evening help the team start
off the 2nd inning. Ryan Degner and Sam Harrington each score
to bring the Robins to a 5-1 lead before a misfortune out by
Senior Sam Clarke who missed third base. The Robins once again
got North Suburban out 1-2-3 in the top of the third. As Coach
Evans started subbing players the middle of the batting order
was up and Mary Devine started off a batting streak of 5runs
in the bottom of the third. North Suburban had its second run
in the top of the fourth and as Coach Evan again started to
substitute the Robins brought in 4 more runs ending the game
with a score of 14-2. The Robins first game at the State tournament
is on Friday night May 31st.
5/20/2002: Robbinsdale 9 vs. Minneapolis

The Robbinsdale Robins defeated Minneapolis with a score
of 9-6 on May
20th at Minneapolis. In the last game of the regular season
the Robins started out very well with 5 runs in the 1st inning.
They got Mpls out 1-2-3 in the 1st. They went out 1-2-3 in the
2nd and Minneapolis scored 2 in the 3rd with the Robins matching
those 3 runs in the 3rd. The Robins scored 1 run in the 4th
while standing a couple of runners on base. Minneapolis threatened
in the 4th inning with 4 runs. The Robins kept their cool and
answered with 1 run in the 6th. After going down 1-2-3 in the
top of the 7th the Robins got Minneapolis out 1-2-3 in the bottom
of the 7th to win the game and defeat a team with a 5-5 record.
The Robins went into the game also 5-5 and ended their season
6-5. Shawn Wheelock had a steady arm at pitching. Runs were
scored by Tim Micheals, Tom Sander, Shawn Wheelock, Mary Devine.
Heidi Sunders started the game out with a run in the 1st inning.
This set the tone for the evening. Both Shawn Wheelock and Mary
Devine were instrumental in the win with 2 runs each and many
excellent plays at 1st base. Ryan McGee coming off the bench
was another player who made 2 runs. A terrific catch in the
infield by McGee was the turning point in the 4th for the Robins
to maintain control of the game. The game winning catch this
evening was by Jacob Yurick in center field. Great job for the
Robins tonight. On to playoffs next. The coaches will let the
players know the schedule for playoffs and State tournament.
5/16/2002: Robbinsdale 14 vs. Moundsview

The Robbinsdale Robins defeated Moundsview this evening
at their last home game of the season. It was parent appreciation
night and the team
celebrated by giving their parents a rose and a key chain with
their picture on it. The Robins got off to a good start with
a 1-2-3 out for Moundsview. The Robins started their first inning
with 5 runs. Batting their entire line up, the Robins let Moundsview
score on in the second inning and the Robins returned with another
in the bottom of the 2nd. With a 6-1 lead for the Robins, Moundsview
scored one more run in the 3rd inning. The Robins preceeded
to hold them with a 1-2-3 out and returned in the bottom of
the 3rd, answering with 1 run. The Robins brought 3 runners
in during the 4th inning. With a grand slam for Tom Sanders
the game ended with a 14-2 win for the Robins. Excellent pitching
by Shawn Wheelock. Good work at first base by Mary Devine and
a solid showing by short stop, Jessica Vaughn helped the Robins
have a successful evening. Good hits by Jacob Yurick, Sam Clarke,
Jessica Vaughn, Shawn Wheelock, Tim Micheals, and Mary Devine
contributed to a Robins victory. A great catch by catcher Tim
Micheals putting Moundsview out was a highlight of the evening.
Rounded out those getting hits were Ryan Degner, and Sam Harrington.
The night started with a great Parent presentation across the
hall in the cafeteria and ended with treats in the cafeteria
after the game the win added to the Robins celebration.
5/14/2002: Robbinsdale 11 vs. Anoka 10
The 7th place Robbinsdale Robins defeated 5th place
Anoka in Tuesday
5/14/02 at Anoka with a score of 11-10. The Robins started the
game with 4 runs. Anoka answered with 3 runs. The Robins came
back with 3 runs. Anoka answered again with 4 runs. Both teams
scored 1 run in the 4th inning with a back and forth scoreless
innings in the 5th and 6th for both teams. The Robins came on
with 2 runs in the top of the 7th and lead 11-8 going into the
bottom of the 7th. Threatening Anoka brought in one run in the
bottom of the 7th when the Robins got 1-2-3 outs to retire Anoka
and win the game 11-9. Success was attributed to outstanding
fielding by Ryan Degner, and Jacob Yurick and great pitching
by Shawn Wheelock. Great infielding by Angel Mire on 3rd along
with a steady hand by Mary Devine on first and Sam Harrington
on 2nd kept the Robins in good position for a win. Great hits
by Tim Micheals, Jacob Yurick, Ryan Degner, Kristy Reynolds,
Sam Clarke, Marni Manning and Thom Sanders gave the Robins a
stong offense. Rounding out the Robins roster was eigth grader
Jason Dorr who earned a RBI and made it to first on his first
at bats. The Robins meet Moundsview on Thursday evening at home
and welcome the parents for a Parent appreciation at 6:15pm
before the game in the cafeteria. This is the last home game
before playoffs.
5/09/2002: Robbinsdale 12 vs. North Suburban

The Robinnsdale Robins defeated North Suburban tonight with
a score of 12-9. North Suburban started the game with a home
run. The Robins put out the next two batters, then leaving a
runner on first they retired the side. The Robins went down
in the first at bats 1-2-3. They answered with 1-2-3 down for
North Sub. In the top of the 2nd inning the Robins found their
bats and hit in 5 runs. North Suburban answered with 3 runs
in the top of the 4th inning. With another 4 runs by the bottom
of the batting order for the Robins they were now in the lead
with 9-4. With two unlucky innings the Robins were out 1-2-3.
They answered by retiring North Suburban 1-2-3. Home runs for
the Robins were made by Tim Micheals and Sam Harrington. Marni
Manning went in for Senior Sam Clarke who had a great hitting
game. Kari Larsen came out after a good showing and was replaced
by Heidi Sunders. Reggie Nelson who had a good at bats. Tim
Johnson for the first time in Center field caught a long high
fly ball. Jacob Yurick had a couple great at bats and a near
catch in right field. Over all it was a great game for the Robins
with another great pitching job by Shawn Wheelock and a great
job by first base person Mary Devine. Jessica Vaughn returned
tonight with a great game as short stop. Ryan Degner was solid
in left field. The Robins are looking forward to traveling to
Anoka on Tuesday for the last away game of the season. A reminder
that Parents Appreciation Night is next Thursday May 16, 2002
with recognition starting at 6:15 pm.
5/06/2002: St. Paul Humbolt 18 vs. Robbinsdale

The Robinnsdale Robins lost to St. Paul Humbolt with a score
of 18-7. Good pitching by Shawn Wheelock. Initally the Robins
took the lead and in the 4th inning the score was Robins 6 -
Humbolt 4. With a couple of errors in the outfield, St. Paul
rallied and delivered 5 runs. The Robins struggled
from that point to stay in the game. The Robins lost one of
their best hitters early in the game and they were unable to
keep the lead. The Robins and St. Paul have always had a friendly
rivalry. Highlights of the game were a great catch just past
first by Mary Devine and good fielding by Heidi Sunder at short
stop. Ryan Degner has always been quick in the field to get
the ball back in to Shawn. Tom Sander has a great arm and good
ball sense and showed it during the game. Tim Micheals came
from behind the catchers mask to play second base. Tim Johnson
then played catcher. Shawn Wheelock as usual had a good game
on the mound. The Robins are at home for Thursdays game, May
9th. The Robins will have a parent appreciation night May 16,
2002 in their final home game of the season before playoffs.
5/02/2002: Dakota 8 vs. Robbinsdale 3
The Robbinsdale Robins were defeated by Dakota 8-3. This was
a good game for the Robins against the 2nd place team in the
league. The Robins went ahead in the bottom of the 2nd inning
by 2 runs. Dakota answered with 1 run in the top of the 3rd.
The Robins again scored with a home run from Shawn Wheelock
in the bottom of the 3rd. Ross Strochrich made a triple in each
the 2nd and 3rd inning. Dakota score again in the top of the
4th. Going into the Top of the 5th inning the Robins remained
in the lead when a couple of errors and hard luck gave Dakota
5 runs taking the lead for the first time in the game. One more
run for Dakota in the 6th and the game was over but it was exciting
and hard fought. Highlights including excellent pitching by
Shawn Wheelock, excellent fielding with many difficult catches
by Ross Strochrich and a great catch by Senior Sam Clarke. Other
contributing players this evening were Tim Micheals, Ryan Degner,
Mary Devine, Angel Mire, Tim Johnson, Jacob Yurich, Heidi Sunders,
and Sam Harrington. The Robins are away Monday against St. Paul
Humbolt the players leave from their schools immediately following
school.
4/30/2002: Robbinsdale 14 vs. South Suburban

The Robbinsdale Robins defeated South Suburban April 30 with
a score of
14-10. South Suburban scored 1 home run in the first inning
answered by 2
runs in the bottom of the first by the Robins. With a quick
1-2-3 down in the top of the 2nd it was apparent that the Robins
were off to a great game. The followed with another quick 3
outs for South Suburban in the top of the 3rd. In the bottom
of the 3rd inning, the Robins started hitting, scoring 5 runs
as they start to pull away. With a score of 14-5 the Robins
began substituting their starting line up. 4 more runs for the
Robins in the bottom of the 5th. 1-2-3 down in the 6th inning
for South and another 2 runs for the Robins. South Suburban
started answering in the Top of the 7th with 5 runs to make
the score closer before getting the 3rd out. It was a great
game for the Robins with a excellent pitching job by Shawn Wheelock.
It was a great team effort. Good consistent hitting by Tom Sander,
Angel Mire, Mary Devine, Sam Clarke and Sam Harrington with
help from Ryan Degner, Jacob Yurick, Tim Michaels, Kari Larsen.
Rounding out the great teamwork were Jason Dorr, Reggie Nelson,
and Marni Manning coming off the bench. Coach Evans and Coach
Silbaugh were confident that the Robins bench could hold them,
and they did. Great job team!
4/25/2002: Robbinsdale 17 vs. Wayzata/Minnetonka

The Robins won their first game of the season at home
against Wayzata. Wayzata scored one run in the first inning.
During the Robins first at bats, Tim Micheals, Tom Sander and
Ross Strochrich all scored on Ross' home run. Wayzata answered
with 2 runs in the 3rd. A great pitching job by Shawn Wheelock.
Tim Johnson, Mary Devine ,Sam Harrington and Tim Micheals call
came in by the 3rd inning . The Robins had found their bats
and had good fielding. They were on the way to a win. Shawn
Wheelock, Tim Johnson, Mary Devine, Ryan Degner and Angel Mire
all scored runs in the 4th inning to continue the Robins scoring
streak. Ross Strochrich gave a good preformance as the strong
hitter for the Robins. Sam Clarke had 2 RBI's tonight. "Way
to go Sam!" Heidi Sunders and Kristy Reynolds round out
the Robins Roster. The Robins won decisively with a score of
17-4.
4/23/2002: Buffalo 12 vs. Robbinsdale 8
The Robbinsdale Robins lost their game to Buffalo on
April 23 with a score of 12- 8. After Buffalo started strong
with 6 runs by the 3rd inning the Robins responded the the 4th
with 2 runs, to continue the home run by Ross Strochrich in
the 1st inning lead off batter. The Robins again came on strong
in the 7th inning with 4 more runs. With the end of the batting
order up they stranded one runner on base and the game was over.
The Robins are starting to show some progress after a very slow
start to the season.
4/18/2002: South Washington 8 vs. Robbinsdale
1
Robins lost to South Washington 8-1. This was the Robins
second game of the season and they still haven't found their
fielding. The Robins sole score was a homerun by Shawn Wheelock.
The Robins played a strong game but didn't find their bats.
4/11/2002: Osseo 25 vs. Robbinsdale 14
The Robbinsdale Robins lost their home opener with a
score of 25-14 against Osseo. Highlights for the game included
a good job at pitching by Shawn Wheelock in his pitching debut.
Tom Sander had a good night as lead batter. The Robins had 34
hits for the game with 16 runs. Coach Kerry Evans said that
the Robins are in a rebuilding year and although they appear
to be off to a slow start he expects them to come on strong.
Jessica Vaughn had a couple of great catches. Mary Devine had
a strong showing at lst base, while Senior Sam Clarke came off
the bench to make a great hit and advance 2 runners. Mary Devine
and Tim Michaels were stong at bat with 3 RBI's each, while
Shawn Wheelock lead RBI's with 5 for the night. "New-comer
this year Ryan Dagner has a strong arm," said assistant
coach Marlys Silbaugh." He should grow into a very strong
player for the Robins." Senior Kari Larsen had a great
hit in her first up to bat. Starting at catch was Tim Johnson
and at 3rd base was Junior Heidi Sunders. The starting line
up was rounded out by Angel Mire at 2nd and Sam Harrington at
center field. Supporting players for the Robins this year are
Marni Manning, Jacob Yurick, Ben Davison, Jason Dorr, and new-comer
Reggie Nelson.
